- EL SERVICIO -
Greetings, loved ones!
I hit 6 months, so that’s cool! The time has flown! We celebrated with McDonald’s! Yes, they have a McDonald’s here! Hermana Boden was very content when she saw the big “M” of McDonald’s in her area!
I talked in church yesterday about service—servicio! I would like to think it went great! I only read half of my talk this time—vamos!
In my talk, I shared a story about a time when I was younger, and my family did a little service for another family that was new to our town. We gave them something every day for the 12 days of Christmas. I remember my siblings and I would run to the door of the family's house, leave the present on the doorstep, and then return to our car, where my parents were waiting. We ran as fast as we could and then drove away. Little Hermana Boden thought it was so much fun! I remember on the 12th day, we waited to see the reaction of the family as they saw their final present from us, and I remember feeling so much joy seeing the smiles of the kids and their parents. This was one of my favorite moments when I realized how important service is and how much I enjoy and want to serve others! For this experience and many others, I am so grateful to my parents for teaching me to love serving others.
Two quotes I love about service:
President Gordon B. Hinckley has said:
“No man can be a true Latter-day Saint who is unneighborly, who does not reach out to assist and help others. It is inherent in the very nature of the gospel that we do so. My brothers and sisters, we cannot live unto ourselves.”
—President Gordon B. Hinckley
“Stretching our souls in service helps us to rise above our cares, concerns, and challenges. As we focus our energies on lifting the burdens of others, something miraculous happens. Our own burdens diminish. We become happier. There is more substance to our lives.”
—Elder David S. Baxter
One scripture I love about service:
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
With these quotes said, I inspire you all to do some act of service this week! Whether you are a member or not, I know for a fact we show our love when we help and serve one another—not only your love but the love of God as well. Like the scripture said, we aren’t just serving others; we are serving our Savior, too. How beautiful is that? To know that we are not only helping our brothers and sisters here on Earth, but we are helping our Heavenly Father as well! We are all children of God, all trying to endure to the end, and with service, we can help each other out! Just like the great two commandments say:
Matthew 22: 36-39:
1st: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
2nd: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
It is a covenant to serve God and serve others, and I know as we do so, we will be able to brighten someone’s day. My goal is for you all to serve at least one person this week. Maybe by making someone cookies, buying someone a Dew from the store, cleaning the trash on the side of the road, or something simple like writing someone a nice note or serving in the temple—there are so many ways. Maybe this one person—this one person—is needing this service and this love of our Savior that you have, and you can be the one to make their day better! I know they will feel blessed, and you will be blessed!
We also did some service this week with a member, and we painted wood pieces at her house! She was happy, and we were happy!
